Implementation of Severe Weather Trading of Hong Kong Securities and Derivatives Markets

Dear Valued Clients,

In order to enhance Hong Kong’s competitiveness as an international trading and risk management centre, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) will implement severe weather trading (“SWT”) arrangement with effect from 23 September 2024, which aims to ensure that all investors will be able to trade during adverse weather conditions.

Severe weather refers to the scenario where a typhoon signal No.8 or above or a black rainstorm warning is issued by the Hong Kong Observatory, or an “extreme conditions” announcement is made by the HKSAR Government.

Similar to the situation on regular trading days, SSL will continue to provide trading-related services during SWT period and there are some key points for clients to note as follows:-
